What is the procedure to study in Canada?

The first step is to get admission to a Canadian Designated Learning Institution (DLI) recognized by the government of Canada. Once an individual receives a letter of acceptance from a DLI, he or she may be able to apply for a study permit.
All new study permits are issued at a Canadian port of entry. An applicant who has submitted an application to a foreign Canadian Visa Office will be issued a letter of approval advising him or her to travel to a Canadian port of entry to have the study permit issued. A study permit is generally issued for the duration of the person’s studies.

What is the difference between study permit & temporary resident visa ?

While a study permit authorizes international students to pursue their studies while in Canada, a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) allows a person to enter Canada. Depending on the country of citizenship, an international student may need a TRV for entry.
For overseas applications, applicants from countries whose citizens require TRV in order to enter Canada will be issued a TRV automatically if the application for a study permit is approved. These applicants do not need to submit a separate application for a TRV and there is no separate fee. The same applies to applicants from countries whose citizens need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) in order to enter Canada by air.

Do I need to show proof of Funds when applying for a study permit ?

Canada study permit applicants need to prove they have sufficient funds to cover tuition fees, and financial capacity to support living expenses for the first year of study. Required minimum funds is depend on number of family members. In general, for Single : 1 year tuition fees + $ 10,000 & for family members please add additional $ 3000 to $ 4000 every year.

Are scholarship available for international students in Canada ?

Scholarships may be available to international students from private, government or public institutions in Canada. There may be scholarships available to international students from the study institution of choice.

Do I need biometric identification for a study permit ?

Canada requires citizens of certain countries to have their biometrics (fingerprints and photographs) provided. Please refer to list of countries that require biometric identification.

What is the procedure to apply to study in Quebec ?

Applicants interested in studying in Quebec need to first apply for a Certificatd’acceptation de Quebec (Certificate of Acceptance for Quebec, or CAQ) and then apply for a study permit.

Is study permit required for the short courses ?

An applicant is not required to obtain a study permit for a program, which is less than six months in duration. However, if a course is longer than six months, the prospective student will need to apply for a study permit.

Is it possible to work during study ?

An international student may be eligible to work while studying in Canada. A student must have a valid study permit and be enrolled full-time at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI). Study permit holders may be allowed to work for up to 20 hours per week during regular academic sessions and full time during scheduled breaks. To work “on-campus” a student must meet the required criteria.

Is it possible to stay in Canada after graduation?

Canadian immigration policy offers international students many ways to stay and settle in the country after graduation. A popular option available to international students after graduation is the possibility for an open work permit under the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWPP). Under the PGWPP, an individual who has studied full-time at a participating Designated Learning Institution (DLI) may be eligible to apply for a PGWP.
Gaining work experience in Canada after graduation may help you qualify for permanent residence in Canada through a variety of immigration available immigration programs. Generally, if a PGWP is issued, it is for the same duration as the applicant’s studies for a minimum of eight months and a maximum of three years.

Is a medical exam required to obtain study permit ?

An applicant may be required to undergo a medical examination based on the discretion of the visa officer.

Are police clearance is required for a study permit application ?

An applicant may need a criminal record check if he or she intends to come to Canada as a student. If required, he or she will have to obtain a police certificate from each country or territory where he or she has lived for six or more months consecutively since the age of 18. Police certificates are required to determine if applicants have a criminal record. They also help visa officers make sure applicants are not a security risk to Canada.

If student change an institution, is a new study permit required ?

If a student is transferring from one Designated Learning Institution (DLI) to another, even if it is at the same level of study, he or she must notify Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (IRCC) by updating his or her online account and ensuring that the school is a DLI.
The same applies for post-secondary students changing their level of study (i.e. from a bachelor’s to master’s program). Please check the conditions listed on the study permit to verify whether the permit restricts the holder from studying at a particular institution or program.
If a student transfers to a school, college, or university in Quebec, he or she will need to apply for a Certificate of Acceptance to Quebec (CAQ) and, if necessary, a new study permit. Primary students who are entering high school, as well as high school students who will move on to post-secondary education, must apply to modify their study permit.

Can spouse be included in the application ?

A spouse or common-law partner of a valid study permit holder, who is enrolled full-time at a qualified post-secondary institution, may be eligible to apply for an open work permit. The open work permit for a spouse or common-law partner may be valid for the same period of time as the study permit, and as long as the study permit remains valid. In the study permit application, the applicant should indicate that the spouse will accompany him or her to Canada. If a spouse later decides to study in Canada, he or she should submit his or her own study permit application.
For an accompanying spouse to be considered eligible for an open work permit, the study permit holder must be enrolled full-time at a degree-granting post-secondary institution. Eligible post-secondary institutions include:
1. public post-secondary institution, such as a college or university, or CEGEP in Quebec;
2. private college-level school in Quebec; and
3. Canadian private school that can legally award degrees under provincial law.

Can dependent children accompany an international student to Canada ?

An applicant’s dependent children may accompany him or her to Canada. However, an application for a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) may be required for the accompanying dependent.

Yes, a potential international student can explore Canada as a visitor before studies begin. Individuals should verify whether they need a Temporary Resident Visas (TRV) or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to enter Canada.

Can minor child study in Canada if he or she under the age of majority ?

Each province and territory in Canada decides the age when a person is considered an adult, also known as the age of majority. The age of majority is usually 18 or 19 years of age depending on the province or territory. There are special requirements for a minor to be to study in Canada if he or she is under the age of majority. A minor child must either come with a parent or legal guardian or have a custodian in Canada.

What is custodianship ?

A custodian is a responsible adult who is also a Canadian citizen or permanent resident who is appointed to take care of and support the minor child in Canada. An immigration officer must be convinced that once the minor child travels to Canada to study he or she will have the proper care and support they need.
Unaccompanied minors wishing to obtain a study permit must appoint a custodian who will care for and support them while in Canada. To appoint a custodian, a Custodianship declaration form must be submitted with an application for a study permit. The declaration form needs to be signed by the custodian and the parents or legal guardians in the home country and certified by a lawyer or notary wherever signed.

Is it possible to apply for study permit for distance learning ?

Distance learning may be conducted through e-learning, correspondence, or online courses. Distance learning is a process that often involves a learning process by which technology is used to so that the student does not need to be physically present where the teaching is taking place. A study permit cannot be issued for a distance learning course.
However, if a distance learning program includes an in-Canada portion, and the length of the program is longer than six months then the student may receive a study permit for the in-Canada portion of the program. The duration of the study permit, however, is restricted to the duration of the in-Canada portion only.

What are immigration programme available for international students interested to settle in Canada by having permanent resident ?

Education in Canada may offer international students a route to Canadian permanent residence. There are a range of federal and provincial programs available for international students to apply for immigration, and in some cases, this can be done without a job offer. Canadian education and work experience award those who are eligible additional points in the federal Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System. What is student partner programme (SPP) ?

The Student Partners Program (SPP) is an administrative framework developed between Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada to streamline the visa application process for international students studying in Canada from India and China. How would I find ranking of UK based universities?

The UK does not have an official system of university rankings. Several newspapers produce rankings using a variety of sources for their data. However, these may not have had input or support from the universities themselves.

Do institutions from the UK accept 10+2+3 education system particular students from India?

Yes, 10+2+3 system is accepted by UK universities for masters programs.

Are entrance exams required for UK Universities?

Most of the courses don’t require any test as British universities accept the Indian academic marks, but a few professional courses like LLB and Medicine require tests like LNAT and UKCAT respectively. GMAT too is only required for MBA or Masters in certain universities.

Howmuch the overseas tuition fees for the course ?

Overseas fees can range from £5,000 to £18,000 per year, depending on the institution, the level of course and the type of course. Some institutions give details of the fees they charge on their websites

Is there scholarship available ?

Scholarships are offered by UK institutions usually merit basis, the British government, a number of organizations and sometimes, your government. Note that scholarships available to international students are very limited and the competition is very intense. Most scholarships require you to write an essay on a given topic, and some may have an interview as well. Scholarships offered by most of the UK institutions are only partial and you may still need to pay the rest of the tuition fees, living and other expenses.

What are the process to get admissions specially I don’t have the grades I need to have ?

Many colleges have Pathway programmes validated by a university that allow you to prepare for a degree course. They last from six months to a year and teach you a variety of subjects, including the one you plan to study – English, study skills, research and more. They are sometimes called foundation, diploma or pre masters courses as well. These course can be studied in the UK or in respective home country as well depends on availability of those courses in respective home countries.

How student know the process of IELTS be waived to get admission to the University ?

Though IELTS can be waived sometimes by the university if the year 12 English language score is more than 70% it is better to do a language proficiency test like IELTS or PTE as the top end universities would want these scores. In some cases the university may have their own test. Eg: ARU and DMU.

Does sandwich course better than a three years UG course?

The Industrial Experience year enables you to gain relevant industrial experience as part of your studies by usually spending your third year working for a company. Besides the money that you earn during this year, you also gain practical experience that can be invaluable both in your final year project and when applying for jobs after graduating.

Can I change the Course once I reach the university ?

You can change the Course if it is in the same department at the same university. It has to be approved by the Admissions tutor.

I would like to take admission in design course, do I need require a portfolio?

Yes, design courses require a portfolio. A basic portfolio needs at least 20 pieces of work showing artistic and creative ability as well as sketching skills. This can be sent as a web link , CD or as scanned copies.

Do I need a visa to study in UK?

Entry requirements into UK depend on where you are coming from& holding nationality. For Asian countries like India, China, Nepal, Srilanka and many more needs visa to study in UK.

Can my Visa be extended?

By completion of the course if a student is able to find a job with an annual package of 21,000 pounds per annum from a company listed in the UKVI website then the Visa can be extended. Students doing a PhD get 1 year extension or starting a business can also extend their visas Tier 1.

How long does it take to get a student visa?

As long as the paperwork is in order it should take about 15 working days. Every country has different processing centres & time frames. For India, applicants in Bangalore can file a priority visa which normally takes 5 working days. It costs Rs 10,000 extra. This facility is only available in Bangalore.

Is an Interview mandatory while filing my Visa?

Yes, all the students are required to attend a credibility Interview via Skype from UKVI. The interview is designed to check whether you are a genuine student who knows details about the course going to be studied.

Can I work part time while studying? How much will I be paid?

Full time international students are allowed to work 20 hours part time during the term period and 40 hours or full time during vacations.On an average a student is paid a minimum of 7-10 pounds per hour

What Do My Program Fees Cover?

Your program fees will cover placement in a carefully selected host family, placement in school, welcome and farewell orientations, the services of a student coordinator and excursions to places of interest. They do not cover the cost of flights or insurance.

What is the easiest way to get an internship ?

To start with you need to be a good student with good interviewing skills. Every University has a career support centre that will help with the application. The Student Union will also be helpful in most cases. If the work placement is part of the course, the course tutor will guide you and help you to apply.

How important are sports and extracurricular activities for admission to a UK university?

The academic grades are the most important criteria of admission to a British university. Sports and extracurricular activities better your profile in comparison to others, especially for scholarships, Job Interviews etc. There are a few scholarships which you will be eligible for based on the sport played.Eg: Cardiff.

Are there any deadlines for applications to British universities?

By and large British universities have a rolling admission process with no deadlines except in certain cases. At the UG level, University of Oxford and University of Cambridge have a deadline of 15 October of the year preceding the year of entry. This is also true for all the clinical courses. The PG level some universities may have deadlines, or may have to stop taking applications if there is the danger of a popular course being oversubscribed. So it is always better to apply well in time especially if you are looking at applying for programmes that are competitive or you wish to apply for scholarships.

How many hours do I need to go to class ?

Usually 15–18 hours per week are allocated for classroom teaching. Apart from that, library research, tutorials and assignments too have to be scheduled into your timetable.

What are the options to choose accommodation suitable for students ?

The most common type is Halls of residence. These are accommodation blocks where each student has their own room. Some of the newer ones have rooms that have their own toilet and shower (en suite), but usually you share the flat with other people. Self-catering halls have kitchens for about the same number of people, where you can cook your own food. Catered halls have a dining hall where you are served at least two meals a day: breakfast and dinner. Halls will have cleaners and may have a laundry for bedclothes. Bills for electricity, lighting, heating and water will be included in the rent.

How much money do I need as living expenses at general ?

We recommend that you should have minimum of £250 per month spending money. You will need to buy personal items like bus or train tickets, snacks, toiletries or credit for your mobile phone. You will probably want to go shopping or the cinema, visit some tourist attractions and buy souvenirs, which means you need enough money to pay for things like transport, entrance fees and gifts.

Will I have to pay for medical treatment in the UK ?

The National Health Service (NHS) in the UK provides free and subsidized health care to international students if their Course is over 6 months.

If you are enrolled in only one course you need to pay only for the first six months of your studies but if you are enrolled in more than one course for example English + technical course then you need to pay for the first course (up to 6 months) and the same for the second (payment maximum of 6 months)
E.g. If you are studying six months of English you will pay the visa fee + tuition fees for 6 months + Health Insurance for the duration of the visa. The minimum will start from 5000 AUD
E.g. If you are studying 12 months of English you will pay the visa fee + initial payment of tuition fees for 6 months + Health Insurance for the duration of the visa. The minimum will start from 5500 AUD
E.g. If you are studying six months of English plus a one year technical course you will pay the visa fee + payment of tuition fees for 6 months + upto 6 months of tuition fee towards technical degree + Health Insurance for the duration of the visa. The minimum will start from 8500 AUD ~5300 Euros

Student right to work
You are permitted to work a maximum of 40 hours per fortnight when your course is in session, and unlimited hours when your course is out of session.
If you have started your research masters or doctoral degree in Australia, there is no limit on the number of hours you may work.
Family of the student (spouse) right to work
Your spouse / partner can work up to 40 hours per fortnight at all times unless the primary visa holder has started a course towards a masters or doctoral degree and holds a student visa (subclass 500). In this case there is no limit on the number of hours a family member might work.

How long is the duration of my Student visa?

The duration of the visa depends on the duration of course so:
If the duration of your course is 10 months or longer and finishing at the end of the Australian academic year (November–December), your visa will usually be granted until March 15 of the following year.
If the duration of your course is 10 months or longer (finishing January–October, your visa will usually be granted for two months longer than the duration of your course.
If the duration of your course is less than 10 months, your visa will usually be granted for one month longer than the duration of your course.
Postgraduate research students are granted an additional six months past the maximum period as per the table above. This is to allow for interactive thesis marking.
For example, a postgraduate research student undertaking a course of more than 10 months duration finishing in November–December will be granted a visa that ends on 15 September (an additional 6 months from 15 March) of the year following course completion.

How long is the visa processing time?

Visa processing time depends on different variables: your nationality, the course you are applying for and the immigration work load.
For example student visas for our students from Chile, Malaysia and Spain are processed faster compared to the Middle East.

Who can come to Australia with me?

If the student is under the age of 18 either one of the parents or an approved legal guardian can join the student in Australia under a guardian visa.
Married students above the age of 18 can include their spouse and children under the age of 18.
